5. Partner for cupid
Lauren Palfreyman’s fanfic was taken as the basis for the screen adaptation. To create this story, the girl was inspired by “The Vampire Diaries” and a series of movies about Percy Jackson. The main character of “Partner for Cupid” is an ordinary high school student Leela Black, who is not just skeptical of Internet dating and dating, she does not believe in the existence of an ideal soul mate or soul mates at all.
But here’s a twist! Her life changes 180 degrees when she accidentally gets into a real office of laboring cupids. It turns out that for a long time they’ve been working on her love story, but kept missing. All because Lila is destined by fate not a simple man, but one of the angels.
This unusual and exciting story quickly became interested in the world of cinema. The pilot episode was filmed in 2018, and then froze the project. And after all, the first series in a matter of days broke all records for viewing. The most loyal fans are still waiting for news and believe that this series will definitely see the light!
4. The Kissing Booth
The screen adaptation of this fanfic was taken by the almighty Netflix. At the time of filming the author of the original story Beth Rickles was not even 18 years old! She based her fanfic on the movies Twilight or Three Meters Above Heaven. The story centers on awkward but mega-energetic high school senior Elle Evans who, unfortunately for her, falls in love with her best friend’s older brother. Even though the story is full of romantic clichés and silly moments, “The Kissing Booth” was still a hit with many viewers. After that, Beth Rickles was instantly listed as a top author on Wattpad.
Within a year, the series became one of the most successful projects of the platform, and the performers of the main roles turned into teen idols. To date, three parts of the love comedy have already been released.
3. Shadowhunters
The author of the Instruments of Death books, Cassandra Clare, started out as a fanfiction writer. At first she wrote funny stories, where the main characters were Harry Potter and his friends, and then switched to creating her own fantasy universe. The plot of “Instruments of Death” tells about a young artist Clary Fray. On the threshold of her adulthood, she suddenly learns about the existence of a mysterious twilight world, inhabited by magical creatures and hidden from the eyes of ordinary people.
The first screen adaptation of the fanfic was released in 2013. It was a full-length movie “Instruments of Death: City of Bones”, but, unfortunately, it did not gain popularity. But the producers were not confused and decided to try a different format – created a TV series, which very quickly found its fans!

The fanfic that has taken over this franchise is about (you’d be surprised) One Direction lead singer Harry Styles. From 2013 to 2014, Anna Todd posted new chapters of her story daily on the Wattpad platform, where not only fanfic fans but also fans of the artist gathered.
In the movie adaptation, Harry Styles was replaced by the charismatic boyfriend Hardin, with whom the decent and sweet Tessa begins a relationship. Over the course of five movies between the main characters raging passions: they come together, then break up, and then again again in a new way
1. Fifty Shades of Grey
Well, the ultimate diamond, the fanfic of all fanfics – Fifty Shades of Grey! The story is trivially simple, but the abundance of explicit scenes did its job, and gradually this fanfic by Erica James overtook in sales even such hits as “Twilight” and “Harry Potter”. Interesting fact: the novel was originally a Twilight fanfic, and the main characters were Edward and Bella. But when James saw how much everyone liked her work, she decided to rework the text and give the characters new names – so Anastaysha Steele and Christian Grey were born.
Of course, after the success of the book version, Hollywood giants became interested in the story. The first part of the movie was released in 2015 and became a real sensation at the box office.
