Some plots are made specifically for those who have already learned all the hardships of adult life. What anime should you watch if you are a working man and are no longer impressed by basic shonen? It’s worth starting at least with these.
Anime, and animation with animation in general, is often considered to be exclusively a child’s form of cinema, but over time, deeper meanings began to appear in the stories more often. In Japan, anime for adults has become a separate direction, so some of them to watch the same teenagers are clearly not recommended (and no, we are not talking about hentai).
There are also stories with a double bottom, in which, revisiting with age, you notice new meanings and problems. For younger viewers there are obvious basic stories, and for older viewers there are hidden details that only those who have already seen them will respond to. What to watch for the world-worn soul? Choose from the list and drown in existential questions
Nana
Many people say that after watching this anime their life was divided into before and after. The plot tells about two Nana: the girls happened to be fellow travelers on the train on the way to Tokyo. One of them dreams of becoming a successful singer, and the other – rushing to her boyfriend. By chance, the girls decide to live together, even though they are complete opposites of each other. But each of them can show the world from her own side and break the rose-colored glasses.
Aggressive Retsuko
This anime is for those who are tired of the monotonous work in the office, the claims of the boss, the ratting of coworkers and the overwork that can not be thrown off their shoulders. Red Panda Retsuko works diligently, but after a hard day, the humble panda goes to yell punk and metal rock at karaoke to blow off steam. All in all, sounds like a plan!
Steel Alchemist: Brotherhood
The story of several reboots of The Iron Alchemist has kept fans excited to this day, but Brotherhood takes the top spot. According to the plot, the Elric brothers live in a world where everything is decided by Alchemy, but the new (for us) orders have their own rules. The main of them – no interference in the processes of life and death. The brothers tried to resurrect their mother, because of which the younger one lost his body, and the older one lost his arms and legs, having to wear prosthetics. The latter tries to correct the mistake and restore his brother’s physical appearance.
Cowboy Bebop
Former policeman Jet Black and his partner Spike Spiegel with not the best reputation together travel and hunt for money on a spaceship called “Bebop”. Fate brings them together with talented friends, including a gambler, an I.T. guy, and a strikingly intelligent dog. Now their path of not particularly honest, but truthful and greedy for gold will continue much more successfully.
Wave, listen to me!
This is how the story of a Korean dorama (Goryeo’s Scarlet Heart fits the bill) or a Hollywood drama like Burlesque could begin. Minare, a waitress, has a dramatic breakup with her boyfriend, who also robbed her of her money (which she didn’t even have). After drinking something stronger, the girl talks to a stranger in a bar, and the next morning she hears her own story on the radio… When Minare runs to the radio station in a rage, it turns out that she has become part of a talk show. Flop or success?
Pluto
In the story of this anime, the future has arrived where humans and robots live together. Keeping the peace is not always easy, and so when serial murders begin, robot detective Gezicht steps in. His search leads him to a certain Pluto, who is carefully hidden by the state. Now he tries to find out more about the new creature so that he doesn’t destroy the new reality and start a war.
It’s so hard to love an otaku
Narumi takes a new job and meets her childhood friend Hirotaka. He has been an otaku since childhood, spending all his free time playing video games, anime and manga. She too has a fandom soul, but she doesn’t want prejudice from her experienced coworkers, so she tries to hide her love of fanfics and cosplay. Of course, these two are bound together not only by memories of their youth, but also by love. Will the two otaku be able to get along together in a grown-up and boring white-collar world?
Monster
This cult anime is not suitable for those who want to reduce their anxiety, but it is a must see for those who like thrillers. A brother and sister are hospitalized after their parents are brutally murdered. Surgeon Tenma manages to save the boy, but nine years later he regrets his decision. In the present, he learns that Johann, the boy he saved, is actually a real monster and psychopath, and the head wound in his youth was an attempt by those close to him to stop him.
Baracamon
Young talented calligrapher Handa Seishu doesn’t yet know how to handle the fervor of his temper and (un)unwittingly strikes his teacher. To cool down, he is sent to a small island to work and reflect on his behavior. There he has to learn to coexist with annoying neighbors who like to make noise, sudden guests, and random children, which are much more difficult to tolerate than one teacher. But it all comes with experience, right?
Vinland Saga
In the year 1002, the Vikings decide who is right and who is wrong by the use of brute force and leadership skills. Young Thorfinn lives in Iceland and dreams of adventure, but one day war reaches their lands as well. His father bravely leaves his family behind, eventually dying on the battlefield. As he grows up, he decides to take revenge on those responsible for his father’s death by mastering the art of combat, no matter what it costs him.
Zombie apocalypse and a list of 100 things I’ll do before I die.
Another tittle about a tired working man who barely survives after each day of work. When Akira finds out that the zombie apocalypse has begun, there is no limit to his happiness. The world is going crazy, so you can live for yourself. No working to pay debts and rent, no doubts about the future – just the here and now. Now he has an indeterminate (but definitely small) amount of time to try everything he never had time for.
Berserk
Young Gats works as a mercenary. All he seems to care about is money, but only until he meets Griffith. The talented rebel leader is preparing to overthrow the government and has a lot of respect for Gats. Since then, he decides to join him in overthrowing the king, but they will have to face a far greater evil. Warriors and demons fear only the Black Swordsman – and this is about Gats, who with his huge sword can decide the outcome of the entire war.
Lane’s Experiments
Typical introvert Lane Iwakura studies at school, doesn’t socialize with anyone and God knows what she does at home. One day she receives a message from a deceased friend, and from then on strange events begin. Now the boundaries between the real and virtual worlds begin to blur, and even Lane herself does not realize whether she really exists.
Two-faced brother
Probably a very familiar situation to many adults. Uramichi Omote is in his thirties. He runs a sports program for kids where, naturally, he exudes friendliness, motivation, and positivity. Outside of that image, however, his face is terrifying: it clearly reads disgusted with reality, tired of overwork, and unwilling to make a clown of himself. I hope this doesn’t sound familiar to you…..
Psychopassport
The events of the popular tittle unfold in Japan of the next century. Now crimes are prevented with the help of a special system that determines the threat level of everyone with the help of a psychopassport. It reflects the state of the inhabitants and quickly warns if a person is ready to commit something terrible. The plot will show us the household inspectors who keep an eye on it all and eliminate potential lawbreakers.
My sempai is annoying!
Imagine a young little worker toiling in the trade alongside a huge two-meter tall stern uncle who treats her like a child… Actually, that’s the plot. Futaba Igarashi and Harumi Takeda are partners, and he heartily likes to tease his colleague, who is literally not even a meter with a cap. Gradually, they begin to get to know each other better, all in a comfortable office setting. An unobtrusive tittle with topical issues under a cuppa.
Garden of Fine Words
Makoto Shinkai’s very beautiful and a little sad anime tells the story of student Takao, who skips classes and hides from the rain in a gazebo where he meets a stranger, Yukari. It’s the rainy season in Japan, so the two cross paths there from time to time, gradually getting to know each other better and better. They seem to be even a little more than buddies by now, but here the rains are coming to an end… Will their companionship end there?
The pharmacist’s monologue
A popular tittle may not seem that deep, although from the very beginning, The Pharmacist’s Monologue brings up topics that are unlikely to be understood by a child. Seventeen-year-old Maomao helps her dad, works as an herbalist, and visits a wayward family in a brothel. One day she is kidnapped and made a maid in the palace. She has to work for a couple years before she’s released, so she resigns herself to reality and tries not to stand out. She’s not very good at it, though, because the government needs a talented pharmacist.
Welcome to N.H.K.
Twenty-two-year-old Sato Tetsuhiro never finished college. He hides out at home, rarely goes out to the store, and sleeps almost all day and night. After about three years of such an existence culminate in an acquaintance with Misaki, who is obliged to restore his status and raise his socialization to a normal level. Before that, the guy suspected that his apathy and laziness are related to the NHK organization, but the girl could be sent by them.
Naruto
In the end, a small reminder that “Naruto” wins the hearts of both young viewers and those whom the anime found already in a conscious age. The stories of the characters can touch the hearts of schoolchildren, students, factory workers, and sophisticated art historians who are used to looking for meanings in figures without shadows. The plot is probably familiar to everyone, so we won’t duplicate it. It’s just a good story about an outcast ninja with no friends who ends up saving the whole world.
